Mechanics at work under a lamp, painted in warm browns
A team of mechanics lean in over a stripped-down racing car on a cobbled street at night. One rolls a tyre across, the others bend over the bodywork, and a single street lamp throws long shadows over the cobbles. In front of them, oil drums and loose tyres lie where they were left. The paint is loose and brushy, and the whole picture stays in one family of colour: chocolate, rust and the pale glow of the lamp.
Pit Lane, 1955 is for the people who know that a race is won in the garage as much as on the track. It makes a good present for a mechanic, a restorer, anyone who spends their weekends with a spanner in hand, or someone who loves the old racing films. The car is long and smooth with a rounded nose, and no one in the picture is posing for it.
Hang it where the light is soft: a den, a study or the wall behind a home bar. The browns are happy next to dark wood and leather. The tall version keeps the lamp and the street above the team, and the wider formats close in on the men and the car. It belongs with the pictures on our racing posters page, and with The Workshop.
