A red racer on a cliff-top bend, in sepia and one bright colour
Almost everything in The Hairpin is the colour of an old photograph. The sky is heavy and grey, the sea below glitters in sepia, and a stone wall curves round the very edge of a cliff. The one bright thing is the car: a small red racer sliding wide through the bend with dust and smoke trailing off the back. Your eye goes straight to it.
That single splash of red is what makes the picture work on a wall. It looks right with old wood, leather and brass, so it sits well in a study, a snug or a man cave, and it is calm enough for a bedroom too. Anyone who has driven a coast road with a long drop on one side will know the feeling in it.
The tall original shows plenty of sky above the bend. On wood, metal and canvas the picture is cropped wider, so the wall, the sea and the car fill the frame. A black frame suits the sepia tones well, and our guide to framing a car print covers the other choices. For more pictures in an older style, see vintage car posters.
